Breeding scheme optimization toolbox

To maximize the genetic gain and productivity achieved per dollar invested in breeding pipelines, it is necessary to continuously improve the various subprocesses that make up each breeding scheme. The goal of this toolbox is to share know-how and software tools for breeding scheme optimization with the breeding community.

Glossary

Breeding scheme: Refers to the cross numerical and graphical description of the different crossing, evaluation and selection decisions.

Breeding program: is the research effort from trait development to handover of advanced products to national trials or the release of products in the marketplace (includes trait development, population improvement & product evaluation).

Breeding pipeline: is the sum of the research effort focused on a given market segment.
