About Ben Hartman
Ben Hartman is the author of The Lean Farm, a 2016 winner of the Shingo Institute’s Prestigious Research and Professional Publication Award. He and his wife, Rachel Hershberger, own Clay Bottom Farm in Goshen, Indiana, where they make their living on less than one acre growing and selling specialty produce to restaurants and at a farmers’ market. Hartman was appointed to the 2017 Grist 50, a list of emerging green leaders in the United States.
Ben Hartman specializes in applying the lean system on farms. Recent events have included presentations for Organic Growers of Ireland, Oxford Real Farming Conference (UK), GE Aviation, Lean Enterprise Institute, The Oregon Small Farm Conference, LANTRA Wales (UK), The Landworkers Alliance (UK), Sierra Harvest, ACRES USA, and the National Young Farmer’s Coalition, among many others. Presentations can range from keynotes to one- or two-hour workshops, or all-day trainings, and are always tailored to the specific audience.

Chyka Okarter is an agricultural technology expert with over 20 years’ experience in extension agronomy, crop physiology, research, and M&E, and has demonstrated extensive experience in private sector agribusiness development by introducing small and medium scale farmers to viable innovative technologies and building strong networks between up-stream and down-stream value chain actors. Chyka has an impressive track record in project implementation and capacity development, increasing farmers’ productivity, income, and household food security. He is currently the Value Chain Advisor in the USAID Nigeria FtF Agricultural Extension & Advisory Services Activity.
