Today 10/08/2019 we focused on discussing the analogy of plant breeding with other sectors like the automotive industry to show that breeders and QGs are couple that should work towards designing the pipeline to deliver a product (squares 2 and 3). The people participating felt they have to work towards defining clear boundaries on where and when the breeder comes to scene.
Then Josh Cobb presented his pipeline on short cycle (2 years) based on genomic prediction and SSD to update the model with grand and grand parents. There was a discussion trying to understand better the pipeline and there was questions raised on the potential problems.
There was a question on the low number of parents and why not overrepresent the most elite parents: This was addressed by the simulation-based answers that when using such a narrow diversity is important to don't overrepresent parets.
We agreed to bring the discussion to the forum.
