Breeding informatics

As of 2022, this work is delivered primarily through CGIAR Initiative on Breeding Resources, Work Package 4.

*****

A modern breeding program with advanced phenotyping and genotyping technologies has the potential to create vast amounts of data. Integrated data and bioinformatics tools are needed to manage and convert this data into valuable information in a time-sensitive manner.

Vision

Every breeding team has easy access to all the information they need to make the best possible breeding decisions.

Mission

To make this possible, the Bioinformatics, Biometrics and Data Management module is focused on delivering the software tools and developing best practices to ensure all CGIAR data is:

Curated – Appropriate quality control is in place and required metadata is recorded to make data usable to drive breeding decisions

Stored in appropriate databases – Data needed for breeding decisions is Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable.

Analyzed using best practices – Appropriate experimental designs and models are being used to ensure the accuracy of information being utilized to make breeding decisions.
